Standard 2048 keeps the familiar tile-merging gameplay of 2048 and adds helpful power-ups for a more flexible experience. Combine matching tiles, build toward 2048, and use Undo, Swap, or Delete strategically when you need more control over the board.
Prefer the original rules? Play Classic 2048.
1. Slide the tiles
Use the arrow keys on desktop or swipe on the board on mobile. All tiles move in the selected direction.
2. Merge matching numbers
Tiles with the same value merge when they collide. For example, 2 + 2 becomes 4, 4 + 4 becomes 8, and so on. Each merge adds the value of the new tile to your score.
3. Build toward 2048
Continue combining tiles to create increasingly larger numbers and work toward the 2048 tile.
4. Use power-ups strategically
Standard mode includes Undo, Swap, and Delete tools that can help you recover from mistakes or reshape the board.
Standard mode includes three tools: Undo, Swap, and Delete. Each one costs a use when it succeeds.
Undo restores the board to how it looked before your last action. A new Standard game starts with 2 Undos. You can only go back one action at a time.
Choose two tiles and they trade places. They do not merge, and your score does not change. Each successful Swap uses one Swap.
Choose a tile to pick its number. Every tile showing that number is removed from the board, and one Delete is used.
When no normal slides remain, Standard shows Game Over. If you still have an Undo, you can reverse the last action and keep playing. Swap and Delete cannot be used after the game is over. Only remaining Undo uses work as this last-chance rescue.
A new Standard game starts with 2 Undos, 1 Swap, and no Deletes. Extra uses are granted when you create specific tiles by merging, and each tool can hold at most 2 uses.
Creating a 128 tile grants one extra Undo if you currently have fewer than 2.
Creating a 256 tile grants one extra Swap if you currently have fewer than 2.
Creating a 512 tile grants one extra Delete if you currently have fewer than 2. Delete starts at 0, so this is how the tool first becomes available.
You start with 2 Undos and can hold at most 2, so there is little value in using one on every imperfect move. Keeping an Undo is especially useful late in the game, when it can also reverse the move that just filled the board.
Swap exchanges two tiles without merging them. Use it to put a high tile back into a corner or restore a useful number sequence before the board gets crowded.
Delete removes every tile with the number you choose, not just the one you tap. Clearing a poorly placed low number can open space while you can still slide. Once the game is over, Delete is no longer available.
Use Swap and Delete while moves are still available. After the board is stuck, they cannot revive the game. An eligible remaining Undo is the only last-chance recovery from Game Over.
Standard 2048 is the familiar 4×4 tile-merging game with three extra tools: Undo, Swap, and Delete. You still slide tiles, merge matching numbers, and work toward 2048, with more ways to recover and reshape the board.
Classic is original-style 2048 without Standard power-ups. Standard uses the same merge rules and adds Undo, Swap, and Delete.
Undo restores the board to how it looked before your last action and uses one Undo. A new Standard game starts with 2 Undos, and you can hold at most 2.
Swap exchanges the positions of two tiles you select. Delete removes every tile with the number you choose. Each successful use costs one charge. Neither tool can be used after the game is over.
If you still have an Undo, you can reverse the last action from the Game Over screen and keep playing. Swap and Delete do not work after the board is stuck.
