1. Slide the tiles
Use the arrow keys on a computer, or swipe on the game board on a phone or tablet. Every tile moves as far as it can in that direction.
2. Merge matching numbers
When two tiles with the same number collide, they merge into one tile with their combined value. For example, 2 + 2 becomes 4, and 4 + 4 becomes 8.
3. Reach 2048
Keep combining tiles until you create the 2048 tile. You can continue playing afterward if moves are still available.
4. Score points
Each successful merge adds the value of the newly created tile to your score. For example, merging two 8 tiles creates a 16 tile and adds 16 points.
Pick one corner for your largest tile and keep it there. Most winning games build along a single edge instead of letting the high tile drift into the middle.
Keep values in order, such as 1024-512-256-128 along the bottom or a side. Ordered rows make the next merge obvious and leave fewer awkward gaps.
If your high tile sits in the bottom-left, think twice before swiping right or up. One careless move can pull the stack apart and force a messy recovery.
A move that only slides tiles without merging often fills a useful gap. Prefer moves that combine tiles, then set up the next pair on the same edge.
You win when a 2048 tile appears on the board.
A “You win!” overlay appears with Keep Playing and New Game. Keep Playing continues the same board so you can chase a higher score. The game ends when the board is full and no merge is left.
